OAK LODGE No.5240
Provincial Grand Lodge of Freemasons of Sussex.
Freemasonry is not a
However, Masons are expected to give to charity, and this is encouraged
within Forest Oak Lodge. Members
give whatever they can afford comfortably. It is stressed that your
first financial responsibility is to your family and connections..
All members make a contribution to the Grand Charity under the
control of the United Grand Lodge of England and is paid annually with
the relevant annual dues and is included in our annual subscription.
Freemasons give much to Masonic & non-Masonic charities
being only second to the National Lottery in the level of money donated
to charitable causes in the United Kingdom.
From time to time the Province of Sussex will run a festival
for a particular Masonic function. For example the 2004 Festival for
Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution was set a target of £2.4 million,
which was exceeded. We are currently contributing towards the 2017
Festival of the Freemasons Grand Charity, and other local charities
Forest Oak sponsors.
The distinguishing feature of a Masonic charity fund raising
is that all contributions come from members themselves, on such
occasions as Ladies Nights , dinners, barbecues etc from our wives and
invited friends who themselves may or not be masons.
